Monthly Archives: November 2011
In the last month, I saw two sales of one of Michael Jordan’s rarest cards – his 1997 Finest Gold Embossed Refractor /74. Both sales, which were the first two I have tracked of this card this year, were astonishing in their end price. The BGS 9.5 sold in October for $10.6k and the BGS 9 sold a few days ago for $7.5k were easily record breaking prices compared to sales from previous years. Both were won by known Michael Jordan collectors and sold by kobes_for_sale, a known Michael Jordan seller as well. Each of the two cards sold were exceptional in color, as I have seen quite a few refractors from 1997 that turned “green” for various reasons. These two beauties were sharp.
I’m still waiting/hoping to see an ungraded sale, which I think will easily go for $5K+.
UPDATE, 8:18PM: auction ended at an incredible $30,123.23!
Michael Jordan’s 1st ever autographed game jersey card /23 is currently up to $25,000. It ends in approximately 7.5 hours from now. The most recent auction for this card ended at $32k, so I believe the current bid is still far from the potential ending price.
Tons of high grade Michael Jordans, including 90’s inserts, jerseys, 1/1 masterpece as well as some Kobes, Durants and Roses.
I woke up this morning and decided to do an ebay check on some recent Jordan sales. This auction for a 1997 Hoops High Voltage /500 blew me away. Never mind the fact that one just sold for $500 earlier this month. Never mind that a similar card, 1996 E-X Essential Credentials /499 routinely gets $500-$600 (with one recently ending at $423).
This is only the second sale that I’ve track since May 2011 of this card. It is described as NMMT by the seller. Image what it would have sold for if it was considered mint. Possibly a $1000 card?
A 1998 Upper Deck Gold Michael Jordan 1/1 Masterpiece graded PSA 9 recently sold for over 5k. More info to come. I feel like eating.
EDIT: I just clicked the link above and noticed that it is actually the exact same card that sold for $1,500. It’s amazing what the BGS grade can do to the value of a card! 4.3K profit for the seller.
